IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING: A Social Satire in 8 Parts
The film is a love letter to humanity and all its failings. With 8 vignettes featuring 18 actors, 2 dogs and 11 locations all packed into 12 minutes.
THE FILM Writer-director Derrick Scocchera’s goal was to find an entertaining and artistic way to deal with some of the most troubling and ridiculous aspects of the human experience. Through a series of vignettes, the often inexplicable behaviors of our fellow humans are observed and commented upon by a droll narrator. No matter how outlandish or senseless the action, one thing is certain: It's Always Something.
Jim Reese in "The Puzzled Man" sequence of the film. THE FILMMAKERS Our cast and crew were a mix of professionals and amateurs, including local actors from the Beverly Hills Playhouse in San Francisco, and crew from the Bay Area Film Collective. Award-winning producers Joe Sikoryak and Rahil Alimohammed, along with director of photography Bryan Perido brought together 35 performers and technicians for six intense days of filming. Everyone donated their time and talents to pull off some complex shots and sequences that would be difficult to achieve even with a Hollywood-scale production. We couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished.
I'm a director, screenwriter, painter and the co-founder of Fantoma Films, a DVD company based in San Francisco that established itself as one of the premiere independent home video companies in the world, releasing highly regarded special editions of films by such famed auteurs as Francis Ford Coppola, Sam Fuller, Alex Cox, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Fritz Lang, among others. Fantoma’s two volume release of the films of Kenneth Anger was named to numerous “Best of” lists, including the New York Times.
I wrote and directed “A Perfect Place”, starring Mark Boone Junior (The Mandalorian, Sons of Anarchy) and Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween). It features a musical score by Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle) and was photographed in 35mm black and white Panavision by Hiro Narita (Never Cry Wolf). The film and its photography were the subject of an article in American Cinematographer magazine.
I've written an adaptation of the novel “The Rabbit Factory” by celebrated author Larry Brown, adapted the Cannes Film Festival selected short “Hog’s Tooth” into a feature and I am currently developing two feature films, "The Short Parade" and "The Last City", both of which I wrote and will direct.
I've also designed movie posters, drawn storyboards and created DVD artwork for Francis Ford Coppola, Paramount, and many others.
I just directed a music video for the Mr. Bungle song "Eracist". This incarnation of the band has original members Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn and Trey Spruance joined by Dave Lombardo from Slayer and Scott Ian from Anthrax.
WHAT WE STILL NEED TO DO Complete the post production on the film, which includes the following:
Create the visual effects.
License some amazing music.
Pay for the narration.
Edit and mix the sound track at Skywalker Ranch (we got a deal).
Enter a few Oscar-qualifying film festivals. It's still important to be accepted even if we're not sure exactly when the festivals will be held again and in what form.
If we can exceed our initial goal we'll also be able to:
Have an original score created for the film.
Generate a 4K HDR Master.
Submit to more festivals (so even more people can see the film!) Virtually or in person.
You become part of the crew. It takes so many things to make an independent film and support, both emotional and financial, is a huge one. You don't have to star in or direct a film to be integral to its creation.
Digital Downloads of the film and all the artwork created for it.
Autographed items from some famous supporters of this project including Steve Buscemi, Mike Patton and Jennifer Beals!
An invite to the San Francisco Premiere where you can hobnob with the cast and crew when it's once again safe to do such things.
T-Shirts and Hoodies (choose from two different, but equally cool designs).
The Poster (signed by the director if you'd like or bring it to the premiere and get the whole cast and crew to sign it).
A Producer Credit. Time to add "Movie Producer" to your list of accomplishments.
Commission an original painting by Derrick. Anything you can possibly imagine will be immortalized on canvas.
