    Who We Are
We are choreographers Megan Rhyme and Tanniqua-Kay Buchanan, and we are producing an evening of dance works that explore the invisible social and political structures that inform, guide, and impede our daily lives. Megan and Tanniqua-Kay met through their work as teaching artists through the Auditorium Theatre’s education department and connected over their shared value of thoughtful and reflective artistry.
Megan has been creating and producing dance in Chicago since graduating from Northwestern University in 2006. She is inspired by intellectual subjects such as science and sociology and her mission is to explore the human brain through the lens of physical experience. Her work has been produced by the Chicago Park District’s Night Out In The Parks, Synapse Arts, and the Chicago Fringe Festival, and her ongoing collaboration with physicist Elizabeth Hicks, “Far From Equilibrium”, was recognized in 2016 by the Chicago Reader as “Reader Recommended” and featured by Tech Month Chicago.
Tanniqua-Kay grew up on the north side of Chicago and now resides in the south suburbs of Chicago. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dance and a minor in Community planning with a design emphasis from Kansas State University, and she was a Guest Artist this year at the Hairpin Arts Center (2017) and Kansas State University Ebony Theater Arts Festival (2017). As an emerging artist, Tanniqua-Kay works on developing her own organization, [Muse] dance + design, an organization committed to bridging cultural gaps of both disciplines by exploring the intersections of dance and design.

    Our Project
Our show, In The Presence of Chasms, is a collection of short dance works that explore physical, social, and cultural gaps. It is an important opportunity for us to develop our artistry through practice of creation and performance, as well as build our portfolios and garner public acknowledgement for our works.
The works to be presented include:
    • Myuz (Buchanan): A look at the evolution of the black woman, the stages of change, separation and the inevitability of relapsing
    • #Grey (Buchanan): Inspired by Color Theory, where is the grey area when a cool color and warm color meet?
    • 3 (Buchanan): Inspired the structural strength of a triangle in architecture
    • Drought (Rhyme): The tension between hope and dread during periods of uncertainty
    • Won’t You Care (Rhyme): The gulf between public, political communication and the dynamics of our most intimate relationships

    What We Need
If we sold out our house at a ticket price of $30 a ticket, this show would completely fund itself! By donating to our show, you make it possible for us to offer tickets at a low cost and still have access to the resources needed to create high quality artistic work. Specifically, the production costs such as venue rental, lighting design, photography and videography documentation, are expensive but important costs. By covering these costs, we can have a high quality production that not only delights audiences but also adds to the quality of our portfolios.
Some of the items in our budget that your donations will cover include:
Venue rental for Hamlin Park Fieldhouse Theater - $500
    Professional Lighting designer - $750
    Videographer - $400
    Photographer - $200

    Our Perks
If you want to see the show, the good news is that your donation can double as your ticket! If you donate $30 or more, you’ll receive a ticket to the show as a thank you for your donation. We also have several fun thank-yous as rewards, including a personalized thank-you video from the cast, an origami ornament, and a limited number of gift certificates for ballroom dance lessons at May I Have This Dance.

    Other Ways You Can Help
And if you can’t donate, you can still help us out by spreading the word about this campaign or about the show! We’d love for this performance to reach as many audience members as possible. By sharing the information about this campaign and our show, you can help us bring Chicago audiences together through dance.
