    Who are we?

The Great Room Co. is a collective dedicated to forging theatre and music opportunities for young adult artists. United by a spirit of emphatic inclusivity, we aim to empower a demographic we nicknamed, "The In-Between." We provide fellow young artists with resources, solidarity and a shared reclamation of agency as we navigate the often uncertain beginning phases - the “in between” phases so to speak - of building a career in the arts. Find us on Facebook and Instagram @thegreatroomco !

    Recipe for a Sellout

Recipe for a Sellout is a new musical about Sydney, a young African American woman struggling to stay afloat in a sea of student loan debt and exorbitant rent. After a long, disappointing job search she is given a contentious job offer. It’s the kind of position that represents the ultimate 2018 betrayal; working on the campaign team of a Republican senator. During days of struggling to write an acceptance or rejection email, Sydney consults her two best friends at their second job, Earth Mother Grocery, while experiencing visceral reoccurring dreams of three seemingly white 1950s housewives. As the housewives attempt to coerce her into joining their world in the kitchen, the line between Sydney’s reality and subconscious blur. Recipe for a Sellout forces its woke, 21st century heroine to question the cost of following (or compromising) her dreams.

A Concert for Up-and-Coming Music Artists

The Great Room Co. will produce a concert showcasing original work and covers of songs that are arranged to express each performer's unique point of view. The concert will give early-career music artists (including some of your favorite Great Room producers) a professional opportunity to perform for a public audience. More details for this exciting event to come!

    Why donate?

Your donations will support the efforts of The Great Room Co. as we continue to produce new work and feature the untapped talent of New York City's early-career artists. Before The Great Room Co.'s inaugural event, Singr: An Intimate Cabaret, The co-founders confronted a harsh reality; it is no easy task to produce new theatre or music on a recently graduated, 20-something budget. The creative and fiscally responsible opportunities for artists (residencies, fellowships, apprenticeships etc.) are not only immensely competitive but often given to an older, more experienced demographic. You need experience to gain experience - a creative catch 22. We were each tired of our various unpaid internships, ushering jobs and the notion that at least we were in proximity to the art that we yearn to make. Together, we resolved to take matters into our own hands and create the opportunities we so desired.

Along with helping us pay for the space, costumes, etc., your donations will also go towards  paying our cast, crew and musicians for all three events! The Great Room Co. is a small but growing company. We aim to pay our staff and actors not only to thank them for their time and efforts but to set a precedent that as we grow we will continue to compensate the artistic teams of our projects.

The Great Room Co. is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of The Great Room Co. must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
