Theatre Prometheus

We're bringing the fire to the DC theatre community

    Anon(ymous)

“What if you want to go home, but there’s no more home to go to?” - Anon, Anon(ymous)

     Washington, DC, United States

A child separated from his mother. A mother sewing a shroud for a son she thinks is dead. Mythical gods, demonic monsters, humans that are somewhere in between.

Join Theatre Prometheus in lifting up refugee stories by donating to ANON(YMOUS), Naomi Iizuka's modern adaptation of The Odyssey.

ANON(YMOUS) uses fantasy and myth to tell a very real story about migrant children torn from their parents and struggling to survive in a hostile land. With deep compassion and nuance, this play uplifts voices that are too often silenced by the powerful.

Called “a group you do not want to miss” by DC Metro Theater Arts, Theatre Prometheus is the award-winning organization behind Abortion Road Trip. We’re proud to work with guest director Jon Jon Johnson, veteran actor, director and playwright of groups such as The Welders and Flying V.

Your donation will help us further a conversation about the terrible things that are happening to real families. You will help us shed a light on what we can do better.

    THE JOURNEY:
Anon and his mother are separated as they flee to America. On an epic journey across the country to find his mother, Anon encounters a diverse cast of characters -- some good, some bad, some not even human at all.

Anon struggles to remember what home is and how it defines him. He wrestles with shifting identities in a country that can be both kind and cruel to those it sees as other.

    YOUR PART IN THE NARRATIVE:
In a small company like ours, $4,000 goes a long way. Whether you help us meet our goal with $30 or $300, you’ll see your gift hard at work on the stage. All donations go straight to artists and production costs.

    THE STORYTELLERS:
We’re working with our first ever guest director, Jon Jon Johnson, whose work as actor, director and playwright can be seen in places like LiveArt DC, WSC Avant Bard and Pallas Theatre Collective.  Together, we bring a wealth of talent and expertise together for one powerful production.

Theatre Prometheus has produced critically-acclaimed shows such as Abortion Road Trip, which we took to the Kennedy Center, [gay] Cymbaline, and [all lady] Macbeth.  We are once again working with playwright Naomi Iizuka, who’s Good Kids was hailed as “a great production and a must see” show by DC Theatre Scene.

We’re working at the Silver Spring Black Box, the largest venue we’ve ever had. This means we can make a bigger impact on more people — but in order to do that, we need your help.

Join us on our journey and support a story that demands much-needed compassion, empathy, and humanity from audiences in the nation’s capital. Donate today to help us tell Anon’s story.

Theatre Prometheus is a non-profit organization devoted to working with local artists to explore and promote diverse, woman-focused narratives both by and for the communities we live in. We are a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization.
