What does it take for a new play to find success?

Support, support, support!

The 29th Street Playwrights Collective knows that generous support is the greatest factor in moving a new play from page to stage.

29PWC provides three levels of support for developing new plays.
  1. Weekly craft meetings with readings and feedback of scenes in progress.
  2. A “First Look” table reading with professional actors, followed by feedback.
  3. The New Works Series: The heart of our program! A public staged reading of the new play.

Our method has proven results! Plays from our past New Works Series are seen on Theatre Row, in regionals and on campuses nation-wide as far away as Perth, Australia, and on podcasts like TheParsnipShip.com.

Like everyone, COVID has been a unique challenge, but we never stopped working and went virtual.

BUT WE"RE BACK!  LIVE!

This past March, we returned with live staged readings in New York and globally in Athens, Greece. (Below)

LOVE TRIANGLE: A Trilogy by Catherine Rogers, directed by Gia Forkis. Featuring: Yannis Askaroglou, James Beckett-Dunn, Konstantina Daouti, Isabella-Louisa Kyriazi, Ero Lefa, Theodora P. Loukas, and Kostis Sfyrikidis. NWS 2022 at Willie's Music Cafe, Athens, Greece.

Looking forward to 2023, we are ready to present five new vital socially relevant plays!

But we need your help to re-invigorate our New Work Series for 2023 and into 2024.

We need to raise $8,000 to accomplish our goals for 2023 season and beyond.

Will you support our work? Please consider a donation of any amount!

Did you know? Not only does our New Work Series support playwrights but also supports directors and working actors, from newly minted to long-time pros.

We hope you can be generous in your support.  We thank you in advance.

Our upcoming New Works Series 2023 will be presented in memory and honor of Matthew J. Wells, who died suddenly of a heart attack this past June. Matt’s play QUEEN MAIR kicked off our first NEW WORKS SERIES in 2016.
