Who We Are:

Our mission is to transform passive observers into active participants in their communities and lives through immersive arts experiences. By curating events that bridge the gap between audiences and community-building as well as social justice organizations, ANIE strives to inspire engagement, promote social change, and strengthen community bonds.

When We Do It: Our events happen sporadically through out the year. We are pretty new (1.5 years) so we are still trying to figure out our rhythms. Here's what we have planned:
CTRL + Burn: A month long arts exhibit featuring currently and formerly incarcerated artists with four nights of programming [in partnership with Decarcerate KC] (August 2024)
Root Medicine: A conversation and reading with poet and novelist Phillip B. Williams, Author of "Ours," [in partnership with BLK+BRWN Bookstore] (Tent. Feb 2025)
Concrete Jungle: A conversation and reading with poet Brittany Rogers, Author of "Good Dress," [in partnership with BLK +BRWN Bookstore] (Tent. March 2025)
The Olive Branch: A conversation and reading with poet and Memoirist Ibtisam Barakat, Author of "Kissing the Sky" and "Balcony on the Moon." [In partnership with Alhadaf KC] (Tent. January 2025]
Beyond Voyeurism: A month long arts exhibit with four nights of community programming featuring photographer Derek Buford, KC Poet Laureate Melissa Ferrer Civil, Choreographer Bernard Brown, and Painter Perry Easton. Where We Do It:
A Nation in Exile takes place all around Kansas City, MO. Since it is our goal to build and illuminate the ecosystem of community building and organizing in our city, it is important to pop up a little bit of everywhere as we build relationships and connections.
CTRL + Burn will be taking place at Turnsol Books.
Why We Do It:

This exile is marked by a pervasive fear, where love and connection should flourish, both with our environment and within our own hearts. After enduring a long history of violence against both marginalized and centralized bodies, we must ask: is there a way back home? What does home truly look like, and who will guide us there?
At ANIE, we believe that the journey home begins within our hearts, allowing us to be at home wherever we are. Home is where connection replaces neglect, where sufficiency replaces insatiable need, and where authenticity replaces the need for masks. We trust that artists and organizers play a vital role in cultivating the conditions for this return, both within ourselves and within our institutions.
We invite you to join us on this transformative journey. Together, let's find our way back home.
How We Do It:
Our events are incubators of intention. Grounded in relational experience, we foster an environment where we can be among strangers and see them as the relatives they have always been. We partner with organizations who are doing the practical work while we create these opportunities for spiritual and emotional replenishment and remembrance.
We pay every artist who performs $300, we pay for travel and lodging for out of town artists, we pay for installation for any visual arts show, we pay for documentation of each event so the ANIE experience can reach far and wide, and we also pay for virtual overhead costs (canva, eventbrite, fractured atlas, website maintenance, etc.). This fundraiser ensures that we can pay for those things. The organizers of this event have forgone pay until ANIE can dutifully stand on her own two feet.

Our virtual overhead costs run us about $100 a month.
We are slotting for 12 months of overhead.

Donate $300.00 or more

We pay our performers $300.
We are slotting for 25 performers for this fundraiser.
Menu Item: Out Of Town Artist Expenses

We budget $500 for each out of town artist's travel and lodging.

We pay our Documentation partners $750 per event.
We are slotting for 10 nights for this fundraiser.

The range for an exhibit can vary so we are arbitrarily placing a $1000 budget on this (also for the sake of a nicely balanced menu item), with the caveat that we will use whatever we have of this in order to install shows.
