ABOUT THIS PROJECT
ABHOR is an intense, darkly funny, emotionally charged character thriller about the moment a person’s identity collapses and the single impulsive decision that changes everything.
At its heart, the film follows Max, a struggling actor in Los Angeles who is going through a breakup he did not mutually agree upon. What begins as a humiliating audition spirals into a raw, unsettling, and sometimes strangely comedic dive into ambition, insecurity, and the roles we force ourselves to play in life.
This is a story about someone who thinks he’s the hero of his own movie right up until reality crashes through that delusion.
Why We’re Making This Film
We set out to create something rare in independent cinema today:
- A gripping, character-driven thriller grounded in real emotion
- A dark comedy about ego and self-destruction
- A raw, unpolished portrait of Los Angeles through the eyes of someone who feels invisible
- A film that doesn’t follow formula — it follows truth
Most stories about “making it” in LA glamorize the process.
This one shows the emotional cost — the pressure, the insecurity, the breaking point.
The Tone
ABHOR blends:
- Gritty realism
- Tense, claustrophobic suspense
- Dark humor
- Emotional intimacy
- A visual style that feels handmade and human

Where Your Contribution Goes
We’re shooting ABHOR from November 30th to December 8th, completely independently and almost entirely out of pocket. Our total production budget is around $1000 for the bulk of our shoot, and we’re relying on creativity, resourcefulness, and a committed team to make every shot count.
Your contribution doesn’t fund a big production machine — it funds the crucial steps that turn a micro-budget shoot into a finished, professional film:
Professional Sound Mix
A polished mix that brings clarity, presence, tension, and immersion to the final film.
Professional Color Grade
A cinematic look that elevates the gritty, emotional, and atmospheric tone we’re shooting for.
Travel Costs (Final Shoot Days)
To complete Abhor, we need to travel to the remote desert locations that bring the film’s world to life. This covers essential transportation and a hotel for our small cast and crew during the last two days of shooting ensuring we can safely reach the scenes that complete the story.
Festival Submissions
To get the film seen by programmers, audiences, and industry gatekeepers beyond our immediate circle.
We’re making this film with passion, grit, and whatever we have —
but your support is what transforms it from a scrappy DIY production into a fully realized, professional piece of cinema. Your contribution helps us cross the finish line, amplify the work, and give this story the life it deserves on the festival circuit.
Why Your Support Matters
Independent films like this don’t happen without people who believe in bold, original storytelling. If the logline grabbed you, if you love dark comedy character movies, if you want to help launch a team of emerging filmmakers… your support truly makes this film possible.
