Our ProjectIt's A Long Way Home: Adoptive Mothers Break Their Silence is a non-fiction book written by Licensed Social Worker and adoptive mother, Brighid O'Shaughnessy. Your donation helps us produce a professionally performed audio book of this work!
Our PlanFrom November - December 2026, we will spend nearly 32 hours in a professional studio recording the book. It will then be distributed on Audible and to Universities across the globe by February 2027. We are doing this in partnership with Lived Places Publishing, the press who has published the book itself. Lived Places will provide all the editing support and then will work directly with the different platforms to ensure accessibility of the book to audiences.
Our TeamThe audio book will be brought to life by a cast of 12, including some of Chicago's best professional actors such as Jeff Award Winner Brenda Barrie and Chicago Fire regular Robyn Coffin. The entire audio book is being directed by Abu S. Ansari. We also have the wonderful opportunity to work with the audio engineers at Tightrope Productions to ensure that the book is produced at the highest quality level.
Your SupportYour support is critical in making certain that all the artists are compensated equitably for their time and talent. In a country where artists are often expected to do work on a pro-bono basis or for very little pay, your donation helps break that cycle. The book itself is also designed to transform the ways professionals support families touched by adoption and to spark systems change in the industry of adoption itself. Your donation and commitment to our effort plays a critical role in getting this book into the hands of decision makers from the micro to the macro level.
