We’re raising money to bring the works of our 2022/23 commissioned composers to life! It’s part of our mission to bring new music to audiences, and that includes paying talented composers for their services in creating new works to premiere. Bringing new music to life is simply not possible without the help of new music lovers like you!
Meet our commissioned composers:
Gilbert Galindo will be composing 'Nada te Espante' for AEON Ensemble.
Gilbert Galindo writes “richly rendered music” (Thought Catalogue) of “undeniable power” (The Kansas City Star) with an intriguing palette of colors. A Tejano upbringing in west Texas combines with a love of modes, blues, and jazz to inform Galindo’s rhapsodic abstract lyricism. Galindo’s experience in New York’s electronic music scene as a DJ and producer also adds a unique level of kinetic and kaleidoscopic depth to his writing.

NOW BREAK IT DOWN
How much does it cost to write a piece? How much does it cost to play one? New Music Box, New Music USA, and
Chamber Music America state that for a piece between 5-15 minutes for 5-10 musicians, composers should charge anywhere between $5,000-12,000. If you think those numbers are high, consider how many hours, how much research, and how many years of experience and skill it takes to compose. Creating a compelling piece of art may take weeks, months, or even years! Did you know -- Frederic Chopin would typically spend 6 weeks on the first draft of a single page of music. That means it took him almost 4 months to complete a single piano work!
In addition to composer fees, there are the costs that come with performance. These include:
- Musician rehearsal and performance fees [~$300-800/musician]
- Rehearsal rental fees [~$20/hr]
- Performance venue fees [~$150/hr]
- Percussion rental and transportation [~$250]
- Promotional materials and printed programs [~$50-$100]
We’re so fortunate to have been awarded $3000 by the Queens Council on the Arts to premiere Gilbert Galindo’s piece. Your ongoing support also means the world to us.
We are crowdfunding $5,000 to guarantee that all of these wonderful composers will be HEARD.
