Dear Supporters and Friends,

This fall, I will premier an evening-length contemporary dance work, titled Fractured, a commentary on the fragmentation of our attention by technology and its design. The work responds to the unending sensory stimulation of modern life and its consequences on our most intimate relationships and greater social fabric.

And I’m hiring 16 dancers. 16 dancers!  Honestly, it might be 18. Why? Are you crazy?  Yes I am. And because this piece is about our humanity and what is at stake. 

A word keeps rattling around in my brain: community. As we strive for a continually independent society, one that is centered on the individual over the village, where tech fuels our independence through streaming platforms, social media, restaurant delivery, exercise apps, Telehealth, online degrees, and don't get me started on AI, the internet is essentially dissolving the very community it originally sought to connect. 

Solo work is fiercely in vogue in today's dance scene. While this trend is undoubtedly fueled by sheer economics and a dire lack of funding for the arts, it is also the result of the same culture of self that our current technologies push, from smart phones and selfies, to social media and influencers. It is hugely expensive to hire artists at even close to an equitable wage in a world that prizes profit over person. It is hugely difficult as an artist, to survive as an artist. 

We have a goal of raising $5,000, the entirety of which goes towards filling the gap for artist pay. Our stretch goal is $10,000. Anything raised above our goal will go directly to the artists. Here are some examples of our costs.

Here’s a little more information about the gargantuan size of this project. 

When I first dreamt up Fractured, it was to be performed in a theater. Then one day I walked into Base Camp Studios 2, an art gallery in downtown Seattle, and everything changed. This venue allowed me to expand my vision into a collaborative dream come true. I have partnered with visual artists Esther Loopstra and Alaina Stocker to curate an immersive, visual arts installation as a set for Fractured, titled SENSORIUM. And I have invited two more producing partners, Miss Texas 1988 and CO-, to host more performances inside SENSORIUM after Fractured concludes. 

Between October-December, 2026, SENSORIUM will become home to 8 weeks of performances and the work of 7 visual artists, 5 choreographers, 10+ drag artists, and at least 16 contemporary dance performers.
