We're making a visceral, emotionally raw queer horror short film about vulnerability, intimacy, and the monsters we create when we’re too afraid to say how we really feel. If you've ever held back "I love you" or felt that your truth might tear everything apart — this film is for you.
🎬 The Story
While on a romantic weekend at an isolated cabin, a young lesbian couple is on the verge of defining their relationship — but neither can bring themselves to speak the truth aloud. What starts as an intimate getaway quickly spirals into a psychological and physical nightmare as their unspoken fears manifest...
To survive, they must fight — not just the literal monster attacking them, but the terror of being emotionally seen.
This isn’t just horror for the sake of gore. Almost Girlfriends blends queer identity, psychological terror, and creature horror to explore the emotional cost of silence and the power of choosing vulnerability, even when it hurts.
💖 Why This Film Matters
Queer Representation Without Apology: Queer lesbian horror exists in droves but rarely gets the support and attention it needs. We are building a Black queer and allied cast and crew to uplift unique queer love stories and open the door wider for Black Queer horror.
Emotion Meets Blood and Bone: We're fusing brutal horror with emotional intimacy. Think Bodies Bodies Bodies meets Slither.
A Love Story Wrapped in Terror: Beneath the screams, this is a story about what it takes to be honest with someone you love — especially when you’re afraid of what they’ll say back.
🧟 What We Need
We’re assembling an incredible team of LGBTQAI+ filmmakers, horror lovers, and indie cinema rebels ready to bring this vision to life. We'll be shooting early August to complete the film by Halloween this year!
