AnomalousCo premieres two powerfully urgent dramas at New York’s American Theatre of Actors — Stiffler by award-winning Kosovan playwright, Doruntina Basha (US premiere), and Bounds by award-winning Italian playwright, Tino Caspanello (New York premiere) — in a combined evening of activist theatre directed by Kathryn Mederos Syssoyeva, from December 17–20, 2025.
- A searing work of absurdist-macabre, Stiffler takes a hard look at femicide, sex work, and systemic neglect of women.
- Poetic, imagistic, hope-filled, Bounds speaks to the vulnerability of female migrants — reminding us that when one of us is taken, all of us are complicit — and asks: what does it take to stand up for the stranger?
What We Urgently Need:
Bounds and Stiffler are made possible in part by the generous support of the Puffin Foundation and Nancy Friday Foundation. But funding is tight - and we must raise $3,500 in bridge funding in the coming days to secure essential production and rehearsal costs. If you are receiving this letter, you have generously supported our work in the past - and we hope you will consider supporting us again at this critical juncture!
AnomalousCo depends on generous donors who understand that ticket sales alone cannot sustain the creation of meaningful, socially engaged theatre. Your contribution directly fuels our mission, our community, and the impact we strive to make—both onstage and in the world. This production is partially supported by the Nancy Friday Foundation.
This funding will directly cover:
- $1000 — Rehearsal space rental (December)
- $500 — Venue Insurance
- $1000 — Playwrights’ rights and licensing fees
- $1000 — Costume and Lighting Elements
These two new works capture the essence of AnomalousCo’s mission:
Amplify the voices and perspectives of women, foreground minoritarian voices, transcend borders, and create multilingual and multicultural works that engage with the urgent issues of our moment.
We are developing a public awareness campaign to amplify our message through interviews with feminists, peacebuilders, and influencers, to raise awareness of women’s rights, safety, and peacebuilding efforts — and ensure that this conversation resonates beyond the theatre.
Any amount large or small brings us closer to our goal!
As a predominantly queer-women-led, feminist, immigrant performance collective, we believe passionately in the power of theatre to foster compassion, nurture hope, and instill courage.
Help Us Spread the Word! We are working hard to expand awareness of the critical work we are doing in these politically retrograde times, in and through the theatre, to maintain sharp focus on the rights, experiences, and perspectives of women.
Please share with your networks! — feminists, human rights advocates, and allies who share our values and can help spread word of our work, enrich our campaign of awareness, and of course, contribute financially and/or help us connect with new supporters!
THANK YOU!
“The most genuinely, completely political theater I have ever seen.”
