About Be Proud! Fest
Be Proud! Fest was born out of necessity and frustration, but most of all, out of love and dedication to our local queer community. Unlike commercialized Pride events, Be Proud! Fest is a grassroots festival created by and for the local queer community. Our mission is to host a free, accessible, and inclusive celebration that amplifies queer voices, supports queer-owned businesses, and showcases local queer talent.
Our Vision
We believe that our local queer community deserves an event that truly reflects and celebrates our diverse identities and contributions. Be Proud! Fest not only celebrates our vibrant community but also aims to help revitalize our historic "gayborhood," supports local businesses, and provides a platform for our local LGBTQ+ nonprofits. Our festival is designed to be accessible to everyone, ensuring that no one is left out due to financial constraints.
Last Year's Successes
Thanks to the incredible support of our Vice Mayor Cindy Allen, our generous sponsors, and our dedicated community members, Be Proud! Fest (formerly Long Beach Proud! Fest) achieved remarkable milestones last year:
- Welcomed over 20,000 participants who enjoyed the festival completely free of charge.
- Hired and paid 100% queer performers, including singers, dancers, and more.
- Employed nearly 20 local drag queens and kings, showcasing their incredible talent.
- Planted over 45 new trees in our local park and "gayborhood," enhancing our neighborhood.
- Highlighted multiple local nonprofits that serve our LGBTQ+ community.
- 80% of our vendors identified as part of the LGBTQ+ family
- Activated local queer-owned businesses, encouraging festival-goers to explore and support.
- Hosted an unforgettable beach party with an all queer lineup of DJs and celebrating our local beaches and landmarks.
