Black Girl Narrative is building a digital archive and short visual film that centers the real experiences and stories of Black women online.

This project started in 2024 with a national survey of over 2,000 Black women and girls about digital harm, community, memory, and visibility. Since then, we’ve collected stories, audio, behind-the-scenes film footage, and early visual materials that now need to be shaped into something that lives beyond social media.

We are now entering the next phase: editing our short film, building the first version of our digital archive, and preparing to release the project publicly in Spring 2026.
To move forward, we need support with production costs, contributor honorariums, website infrastructure, and digital storage tools that protect the work.

Your donation will directly support:

  • Editing and sound design for the short visualizer
  • Website and archive development (Wix Studio + additional tools)
  • Contributor honorariums for Black women who shared their stories
  • Artist and production support for behind-the-scenes materials
  • Software, hosting, transcription, and accessibility tools
  • Secure digital storage for the archive’s first collection

We are a small, Black woman–led creative team doing this work while holding families, full-time jobs, and community commitments. We built Black Girl Narrative because Black women’s stories online are often misrepresented, erased, or filtered through algorithms that were not designed with us in mind. We want to create a space where our stories can live without distortion and be held with care.

Why we need funding now:

Crowdfunding lets us begin this next production phase immediately. We are ready to edit the film, prepare the archive, and organize the materials we’ve already collected, but we cannot move forward without financial support for the technical and creative labor involved. This early investment ensures the project stays on track for a Spring 2026 release.

If this work has spoken to you, or if you believe in digital spaces where Black women are seen clearly and held with intention, we invite you to support this phase of the project. Every contribution helps us protect the stories that deserve a home.

Thank you for helping us build something meaningful, and for supporting a project we hope will serve Black women for years to come.
