The Rehearsal Club was immortalized in the Ferber/Kaufman play and later movie
Stage Door, starring Katherine Hepburn and Ginger Rogers. Former residents of that famed residence reunited in NYC in 2006. For our Centennial in 2013, alumnae from all over the country came together with four days of events in a kindred spirit of unity. Today our mission continues to
"preserve the legacy of The Rehearsal Club and to inspire future generations." Women living at The Rehearsal Club were fortunately linked with alumni who often became valuable professional connections and teachers. Some
Rehearsal Club residents became stars or recognizable names, some had their 10-minutes of fame, all had successful careers in many walks of life, while still maintaining those early friendships, nurtured 40 years or more.
One of our favorite star alums,
Blythe Danner, will be honored at this
105th Anniversary Celebration. Visit our
documentary pageon our website to see the trailer Blythe narrates. To help finalize the documentary, we plan to hold a
"silent" Celebrity Auction. Thank you to
Chita Rivera, Anita Gillette, Kim Cattrall, and
Blythe Danner for being our first celebrities to donate gowns.
This
105th Anniversary Celebration is also designed to pay our gifts forward by providing a stepping stone to the next generation of theater professionals. We are creating an opportunity for
six talented young women to not only network with industry professionals in the landmark
home of Edwin Booth, The Players . . . A Certain Club, but also to perform before a qualified
industry panel of award-winning professionals in the field, casting directors and agents.
YOUR SUPPORT will allow us to fund the attendance of (1) six Industry Judges; (2) six talented young women to compete; (3) six dancer/models to display our celebrity gowns and other key roles in marketing/public relations while allowing access to people like you, outside our RC & The Players Circle of Friends (see our "perks").
