BORDERx: A Crisis In Graphic Detail
BORDERx is an comix anthology to raise funds and awareness for the humanitarian crisis at the US border, to benefit the South Texas Human Rights Center.
Visit Us At BCAF San Francisco, The Black and Brown Comic Festival on MLK Day
If you are in the area, BORDERx will have a table at the San Francisco BCAF Festival on MLK Day, Jan. 20, 2020 from 11am to 6pm at City View Metreon 4th Street 135 San Francisco CA 94103 Come visit. We'll have posters, stickers and information about our partner organizations.
Founded in August of 2019, BORDERx has brought together over 70 writers, comix artists, journalists, historians, lawyers to create a comic book anthology. We are addressing the growing problem of hate, fear and misrepresentation in the U.S. The BORDERx anthology project seeks to document this problem in the form of sequential art, posters and infographics. Providing a platform for creatives to approach this multifaceted problem from many different angles, we are documenting these difficult times through the powerful lens of comics. Focusing on the migrant humanitarian crisis at our southern border, this anthology will raise money to provide relief to migrants seeking a better life for themselves and their families through the work of The South Texas Human Rights Center (STHRC). You can learn more about their work at their website https://southtexashumanrights.org/ or by listening to The Dead In The Desert series of profiles on Texas Public Radio by Edward R. Murrow award winning journalist David Martin Davies https://www.tpr.org/people/david-martin-davies
As comics evolve, they have become an ideal medium for exploring serious and difficult topics like racism, war and human rights. Rep. John Lewis’ March, Art Spiegelman’s Maus and Marjane Sartrapi’s Persepolis are the tip of the iceberg. This anthology brings together diverse artists and writers to do what they do best, record and interpret the human experience in engaging and informative ways. We will also produce a study guide to help teachers bring BORDERx into the classrooms with source materials, bibliographic materials, comic scripts and lesson plans.
