A Film Celebrating Ancestral Power
THE STORY
Two estranged sisters reunite to save their Newark community from a supernatural darkness. To amplify their ancestral magic, they gather three extraordinary Black women—a wise librarian, a young artist, and a compassionate nurse—forming a powerful coven that taps into the strength passed down through generations.
This 30 minute magical realism film celebrates Black womanhood, exploring ancestral connection, community protection, and the unseen power Black women carry every day
WHY THIS FILM MATTERS
"A Witchy Thing" centers five Black women of different ages and body types, photographed with reverence and beauty. Set in Newark, New Jersey, we are filming at real locations: Weequahic Park, the Newark Public Library, and neighborhood streets. This project not only highlights a story it also highlights a place and weave real world problems within this fantasy like family discontent, corporate greed, gentrification, self identification.
We're creating two complete versions:
- Cinema Version (16:9, 30 minutes) - For film festivals
- Vertical Series (9:16, 35 minutes) - For TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts
