“We're not just providing pens, paper and crayons, we’re providing inspiration and hope.”
Founder, Aysha Turgut
Since its inception, Camp Art Project has had several successful art workshops in a safe space tent with a group of Syrian refugee children in Hatay Province, Turkey.
The Founder curated the resulting artwork into an exhibit entitled Bridge of Dreams: Refugee Children and the Arts in Humanitarian Action in an effort to give voice to the kids and raise public awareness of their plight. We are working with our partner and exhibit sponsor UNICEF to have the show at the United Nations in 2018.
Our next steps are to improve upon our program so we can obtain maximum impact and healing by flying in a professional art therapist to work directly with refugee children. In an effort to keep the program going consistently, the art therapist will train the local aid worker(s) who will regularly work with the kids after she/he leaves. The relationship will resume with periodic consulting through video to be able to tweak and monitor the work.
We are pleased to continue building partnerships with organizations like New York University's Art Therapy Department, UNHCR and UNICEF in order to expand and enhance our program and educational outreach.
