Established in September 2023, the Neurodivergent New Play Series is a young theatre organization based in Brooklyn, NY, committed to presenting monthly play readings by neurodivergent playwrights & directed by neurodivergent directors. Please share and support our end-of-year fundraiser so we can continue to support neurodivergent empowerment in theatre going into 2024.

About Us:

Founded in 2023 by award-winning autistic playwright and producer Anthony J. Piccione, the Neurodivergent New Play Series is dedicated to presenting matinee readings on the 3rd Sunday of every month - with seasonal breaks in December, January, July, and August - of plays written entirely by neurodivergent and disabled playwrights (i.e. autism, ADHD, dyslexia, OCD, Tourette syndrome, etc.) as part of a growing resident company of playwrights whose interests and specialties span a wide range of subjects, genres & structural approaches, with each play personally selected from a neuro-inclusive resident company of directors.

Our current Resident Directors include Maggie Dunn, Jaye Hunt, Zinc Tong, Abigail Gabor, Emma Cavage & Ashley Adelman. This Fall, we have presented works by playwrights Andy Boyd, Liv Shoup & John Mabey, with plans to be announced soon for our first 2024 readings beginning this February - featuring plays by Aubrey Clyburn, Courtney Taylor, Dave Osmundsen, Natalie Sacks & more. The vast majority of writers and directors are LGBTQIA+; a majority of our directors and the majority of our playwrights are female-identifying or non-binary; and 100% of our selected playwrights & more than 90% of our current Resident Directors identify as neurodivergent and/or disabled.

Our Mission & Goals:

We are thankful to be in agreement with our friends at spit&vigor theatre company to continue as part of their curated programming for the duration of our 2023-24 Season at their gorgeous blackbox theater - located at 58 Second Ave, Studio 5858, Brooklyn, New York. (Tickets available by clicking here.) However, we are already looking ahead to our 2024-2025 Season and beyond. We want to do everything we can to ensure that we are supporting the playwrights and directors who create the art that audiences see on stage. Furthermore, we want to be able to keep ticket prices as low as possible for our audience members - especially for college students & fellow artists - even as we adapt in the future.

Above all else, we want to show the theatre industry that not only do neurodivergent artists exist, but they are ready to share their stories with the world. Every playwright and every director has their own experiences and their own approach, and we strongly believe that New York City needs a creative space where new plays - presented for neurodivergent audiences by neurodivergent artists - are showcased on a regular basis.

Expenses:

We are seeking to raise up to $1000 to help support our programming as we go into the new year. Any funds used toward this campaign will go directly toward ensuring/increasing stipends for artists, guaranteeing sufficient rehearsal space for upcoming readings and/or marketing & audience outreach tools to help us reach the widest possible audience.

Thanks to our friends at Fractured Atlas, all our donations are tax-deductible & and any help we receive will go a long way. By donating to our campaign between now and December 31st will help us offset our production costs for the remainder of our current season, as we plan ahead to our 2024-25 Season beginning in September 2024.

We encourage you to look through our various gifts available to our prospective donors on our Fractured Atlas page. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to our staff at neurodivergentplays@gmail.com under the subject line "Donation Question".

Other ways to help:

If you cannot donate at this time, we hope you will please consider sharing with friends, family, acquaintances, etc. who share our passion and are able to donate. Also, please be sure to follow us on Instagram @neurodivergentplays and Facebook at www.facebook.com/neurodivergentplays to receive updates, and be sure to spread the word by sharing our posts, if you like our content.

There are not many companies dedicated to presented new works by neurodivergent & disabled playwrights, and while the past decade has seen much progress for neurodiversity in the arts, there is still more work to do. If we exceed our fundraising goal, we'll be able to guarantee that we'll continue to play our part in making the 2020s the decade of neurodivergent empowerment in the performing arts.

Thank you and happy holidays!
