Odi's inspiration - 500.jpeg 86.46 KBOdi is creating a special, one-of-a-kind handwoven tapete (rug) from hand-dyed sheep’s wool.
He will weave the tapete during the campaign, and I’ll be sharing updates as it takes shape. You’ll be able to follow its journey from the first threads to the finished piece.
This unique work is inspired by a photograph I took here in Roanoke in April of the evening sky. Odi fell in love with the image and began talking about creating a rug inspired by its colors and beauty.
This is an opportunity to support indigenous artisans and own a truly unique piece of Oaxacan culture, handcrafted by Odi and inspired by a moment captured here in Roanoke.
I’ll personally bring the finished tapete back with me, carefully packed and safely transported in my suitcase.
Odilon gathers the dye plants locally.
The plants and the colors:
Pomegranate for the darkest color
Pericon and Zacatlascali for the yellows
Palo de Brasil for the pink-red
Undyed Natural Wool for the greys
Size: approximately 36" X 60"
