The Chicharra Poetry Slam Festival is a 3-day celebration of poetry, spoken word, storytelling and community that will gather over 75 nationally recognized poets in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 21, 2024 to March 24, 2024.
We are seeking an additional $2,500 through donations our communities to help ensure the success of this event. While competing poets will pay to register and our Finals Stage will be ticketed, in order to ensure our youth, elders and income restricted folks can participate, all of the themed readings, workshops, side events, small book market, poets picnic, and showcases will be free for anyone to attend.
In order to ensure we can bring all of these educational and performance events to our community for free, and do sin in some of Albuquerque's most iconic settings, we need your support to help us provide for venue spaces, fees for our workshop facilitators, and operational costs that can not be covered by other fundraising streams. So we are coming to you for support!
In these times when there is so much struggle, we believe that art, specifically poetry, is one of the best tools we have to bring communities back together in hopefulness and creativity.
To give you a taste of what your funds will help to support, some of the side events we are planning (on top of the poetry slam competitions that will culminate with our top 4 teams competing for the title) include:
Latin Peoples Open Mic
LGBTQ+ Open Mic
Indigenous People Reading
Asian American Pacific Islander Open Mic
Black Poets Open Mic
Visible/Invisible Disabilities Open Mic
Big Feelings Showcase
Nerd Slam
Haiku Head 2 Head
Erotica Open Mic
Parent Poets Showcase
Workshops
Poet's Picnic
& More!
You donations contribute to all of this, and we are offering some perks as a thank you for donating!
