Little Red Riding Hood, A Children's Opera
Prelude Opera is excited to announce an upcoming production of a timeless storybook classic, Little Red Riding Hood.
Little Red Riding Hood is a wonderful children's opera by Seymour Barab. We hope to live-stream a production and possibly hold an outdoor performance in a park in May 2021.
What is Opera?
Opera is a complex work of art that bring many artistic disciplines together, including singing, instrumental music, theater and art. Professional opera singers bring the highest quality of singing and acting to our shows, along with sets, costumes and fantastic staging.
What is funding used for? Funding goes towards the performers, production team, scenery and costumes, advertising and publicity. Acclaimed stage director Benjamin Spierman will be directing this show. This particular production will also need funding directed toward the costs of streaming the show online.
Why Little Red Riding Hood? Little Red Riding Hood has been enjoyed by young audiences since it was composed in 1962. It was the first American opera performed in China after the isolationist period. Composer Seymour Barab (1921-2014) was a Manhattan resident and has been deemed “the Rossini of our time.”
The mission of Prelude Opera is to introduce opera to children. By enjoying family-friendly opera at a young age, children can develop a lifelong interest in this stunning musical-theatrical experience. My hope is for Prelude Opera to be a prelude to a lifelong enjoyment of opera and classical music.
Full of delightful music and humor, Little Red Riding Hood is a treat for all ages. Come be a part of keeping the arts vibrant for the next generation!
How Can I Help? Any donation will help us reach our funding goal, and allow us to pay our professional artists and to provide the performances at affordable ticket prices. Please share this with your friends and on social media! For updates on the performances, visit www.preludeopera.com.
