At Het Toneel Serre, the most competitive theatre conservatory in the Netherlands, success is life and death. So when Marcus, an American outsider, is brought to join a production of Othello, many students see to it that he doesn't get in the way of their spotlight.

CIRCUMSTANCE  examines Dutch racial politics and theatre practices in a fast-paced drama of Shakespearean proportions with sex, violence, queer relationships, and techno.

Produced by students at the University of Michigan, CIRCUMSTANCE  is a feature film involving a team of young artists across three continents and six countries. All year, we have been in pre-production, raising money, researching, developing the screenplay, and building our team. 

This August, we will be traveling to Amsterdam for a week of filming, before returning to Ann Arbor for the rest of production.
