A Film Examining the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
This campaign supports the final archival research, source review, and development required for a narrative feature film currently in active pre-production, with plans to begin filming this spring. While the assassination of Dr. King has been the subject of extensive historical and documentary work, it has never served as the foundation for a major narrative feature film. This project approaches the subject through documented records, firsthand accounts, and primary materials, grounding the story in verifiable sources as it moves rapidly toward production.
The film is structured as a courtroom-driven investigation, centered on a civil case involving a key witness connected to the assassination who was wrongfully committed to a mental institution. As the case unfolds, suppressed testimony, institutional pressure, and unresolved questions come into focus, forming the spine of a character-driven investigation into truth, accountability, and moral responsibility. The project is being produced by Elizabeth Fowler, whose producing credits include Official Secrets, starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, and Devil’s Knot, starring Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth. Her work focuses on historically grounded, socially relevant storytelling designed to engage broad audiences while fostering informed public dialogue.
