Clémence et Virgile Présent: VOYAGE is a "dark clown cabaret" by Avery Bargar and Kat Rousseau—an hour of comedy, musical chaos, ancient goddess worship, and evasion of legal consequences. This fall, we bring our fullest show yet to the Philly Fringe, presented through Cannonball at the Asian Arts Initiative Black Box, September 5–7, 2025.
What's it about?
Two codependent charlatans mount a cabaret to hide in plain sight. Fleeing Paris after a tragic “accident,” these vaudevillians are washed up with no money and nowhere to stay. But The Muse calls–so they’ve booked a venue, stolen a band, and invited you! Come for the music, stay for the chaos, leave for your sanity.
Why this show, and why now?
We started making music and dumb characters together for fun three long years ago. But as VOYAGE has taken shape, it’s become something more: a portal into joyful absurdity. In an era defined by cruelty, greed, ignorance, and hate, we aim to celebrate what’s beautiful in humanity—and laugh mercilessly at the rest.
Wait, who are you?
We’re Avery and Kat—musicians, clowns, and chaos agents. We met at clown camp in Berlin (as one does) in summer 2022, despite both living in Brooklyn. We carried the physical theater magic back to New York, and the joyful foolishness continued. Avery hails from Jewish doctors in Boston; Kat, from God-fearing preachers in North Georgia. But the same twisted intuition led us here, and we're forever grateful.
Don't hog all the glory, guys. Tell us about the band!
We're so selfish. Sorry:
- Andrew Orenstein (Saxophone, Drums, Bass Clarinet, "Jeffrey") is a musician, painter, novelist, and photographer based in Brooklyn. Oh--he's also a therapist. Yeah, he's absurdly creative. But the guy's a total sellout. It's shameful, really...
- Ronan Sidoti (Guitars, Drums, "Antoine") is an actor, musician, and writer also born and raised in NYC. Like Andrew, he seems nice. But don't be fooled. The whole performer thing is a distraction. From what? We don't know yet. But we're on high alert...
And your director?
Ash Malloy (Director, "Muse") is an actress, writer, singer and educator based in NYC. She's performed in plays all over the country, and according to Avery, who might also be her partner, she doesn't write first drafts, she skips straight to the third draft.
