EMIR Healing Center is moving into a new three-thousand-eight-hundred-square-foot space in Germantown. This environment will hold family therapy, group support, movement, and community programming for families navigating homicide loss.

When we were brought in, construction had already begun. Walls were up. Paint was chosen. Decisions were made without design guidance — not out of neglect, but because EMIR did not believe they could access or afford the right interior designer.

We stepped in because every community deserves a space that reflects their humanity.

Our design philosophy is rooted in ancestry, identity, and the belief that beauty and softness are not luxuries but necessities for healing. Even though this work began without us, we are committed to guiding the space toward what it must become for the families EMIR serves.

This is not about correcting EMIR. This is about standing with them. Offering the advocacy, expertise, and design leadership they deserved from the beginning. Ensuring that this environment can hold grief with tenderness and hold community with care, beauty, and intention.

The Space That Holds Us is a campaign to raise one hundred fifty thousand dollars to fully support this transformation.
 
Funds will cover:

• Our design fees
• Contract-grade furnishings
• Light construction work required to finish the space responsibly
• Paint, wall coverings, electrical adjustments, and essential carpentry

EMIR does not currently have funding for these elements, yet each is required to create a space worthy of their mission.
