Liz Sexe Dance presents “~” on October 3rd at 7:30 p.m. and October 4th at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Madison Youth Arts Center (MYArts). “~” is a collaboration between Liz Sexe Dance and sound artist Timothy Russell that brings together the elements of sound waves and waves of movement. Sound is movement. Action creates waves. Movement creates movements and movements create change. Your contribution will bring about these waves of change by helping us with the rental costs for the performance space.
About the project:
Liz Sexe Dance is a contemporary dance project that is based in Madison, Wisconsin. The dance works utilize interdisciplinary aspects of sound, movement and digital projection by creating environments within the performance space. Conceptually, the subject matter of the work dives into concepts of memory, ethics, and ecology.
For “~” you will see, hear and feel waves of movement and sound. Sexe and Russell have been working on these concepts since 2020 when they were left inside their house and found ways to bring all these pieces together. Crafting this piece in the round brings the audience into an immersive experience. How is something heard? Who is amplified? Can you see the action over time? Using microphones, feedback loops, reel to reels and subwoofers the audience will be immersed into a world of sound and actions.
Dancers Erin Alberts, Abby Frank Taylor, Eve Levi, Tara McAninch, and Megan Schimke weave through space with reel to reel tape, large speakers, microphones and their own powerful movement. Poetic elements provoke both nostalgia and neoteric ideas. Hopeful questioning is brought forth in the visceral performance. Utilizing the new MYArts space, sound and movement can be experienced from all angles so everything is exposed.
