On March 29th, 2019 CONCH SHELL PRODUCTIONS and MILTON G. BASSIN PERFORMING ARTS CENTERwill co-present HEAR HER CALL - a festival of seven 10-minute plays written by Caribbean-American female playwrights of varying Caribbean ancestries -  France-Luce Benson (Haiti), Wendy Ariman (Trinidad), Maggie Diaz Bofill (Cuba), Julliette Jeffers (St. Kitts) ,  Nattalie Gordon (Jamaica), Marjuan Canady (Trinidad), & Rossely Harman (Dominican Republic).

HEAR HER CALL
celebrates the unique voices of ethnically diverse Caribbean-American female playwrights who employ innovative methods to inspire social change.

At Conch Shell Productions, our mission is to develop, workshop and produce new plays by writers of Caribbean heritage who have an expanded view of reality. The blowing of the conch signifies purification, unification, victory over suffering...the hearing of the divine word. We believe that art can and should provoke social change. We are interested in new works that - like the blowing of the conch shell –  inspire audiences to redefine their reality and to find new ways of thinking when presented with challenges. Our productions create an opportunity for diverse audiences to explore and celebrate the unique ethnic/cultural diversity of the 28 multi-lingual Caribbean cultures that have immigrated to the Americas.

Conch Shell Productions (winner of 2018 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity's (PCTF) OUTSTANDING OVERALL PRODUCTION OF A PLAY Award) is led by Haitian-American, Yale School of Drama graduate, actress/writer/ producer Magaly Colimon-Christopher. Magaly’s writing credits include SILENT TRUTH (2018 O’Neill NPC Finalist), THE HUNTING SEASON (Winner of 2018 PCTF OUTSTANDING PLAYWRITING FOR A NEW SCRIPT Award), “Butterscotch and Fudge” (Ah-Ha Moments One-Act Play Festival); DESTINATION: OOOH, AAH, YUMMY (Princess Grace Awards – Semi-finalist); and STRAIGHT TALK AGAINST THE GRAIN (New Perspectives Theatre, PSNBC @ HERE).    Her directing/writing credits include BN4REAL (webseries), YES MADAME (Official Selection: Pan African Film Festival, Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival, Reel Sisters Film Festival, and HBREC Film Festival) HER TORY (Semi-Finalist NATIV Caribbean Film Festival and Market).

Magaly is co-directing/co-curating HEAR HER CALL with award-winning Peruvian-Italian director/playwright/dramaturge/producer Nicoletta Mandriotti.  Nicoletta's production/direction of GIRL INSIDE THE MIRROR in 2018 PCTF won OUTSTANDING DIRECTION OF A ONE-ACT PLAY OR SOLO PERFORMANCE and OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION OF A ONE-ACT awards.

Milton G. Bassin Performing Art Center's Interim Director Kwame Clarke has committed the PAC's support to Conch Shell Productions by partnering with our company and providing its black box theater for Conch Shell Productions' first annual HEAR HER CALL Theater Festival.

HEAR HER CALL Caribbean-American Women's Theater Festival is made possible (in part) by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

We are asking your financial support to fund rehearsal space rental (the plays will be fully produced by Conch Shell Productions), supplies, artist fees, and marketing/publicity for HEAR HER CALL.

HEAR HER CALL is one of 3 events planned for CONCH SHELL PRODUCTIONS 2019 season. With the support of our community,  Conch Shell Productions goal is to produce a reading series-&-workshop, and a full production of a new play by a Caribbean-American writer.  So take this step and become a member of our supportive community.
