Crenshaw Dairy Mart is raising $50,000 by June 30th so that we can reach our vision of sustaining an accessible, inclusive sanctuary for community care, creativity, and abolition. By doing so, we will remain a thriving hub where more artists, organizers, and neighbors can come together to build power, share stories, and experience collective joy.
Crenshaw Dairy Mart opened its doors on February 29, 2020 just two weeks before lockdown and the start of the Covid 19 pandemic. In the last five years, CDM has created a thriving ecosystem of like-minded organizations and artists and has redistributed close to $4 million dollars back into BIPOC local businesses and artists. We are focused on longevity and continuing our culture of care. In a time when our work is facing a number of systematic barriers, including the underfunding of grassroots Black- and Brown-led arts institutions, displacement from rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods, and a lack of sustained investment in the wellbeing of communities most impacted by incarceration, your support ensures that this sanctuary continues to thrive as a living site of abolitionist practice and community transformation.
When we have the tools and space to grow, the impact multiplies. More artists, neighbors, and organizers will be able to gather, share, and build together in a space designed to welcome them fully. Our events will be more inclusive, accessible, and frequent—offering opportunities for joy, connection, education, and healing. This is how we build a culture of care and liberation—together, from the ground up.
