DISMISSAL TIME: A dramatic short film about racial injustice in a prestigious high school.
DISMISSAL TIME Teaser Title.png3.93 MB I am the screenwriter, producer, and director of the short film, Dismissal Time.. The story is set in a prestigious prep school where a black student becomes the victim of a vicious form of cyber bullying. In the aftermath of the incident, a teacher makes it her mission to bring those responsible to task.
This story is loosely based on a real-life situation that happened to me when I was one of the few students of color in my freshman class at a Catholic high school in Staten Island, NY. More than just the actual bullying itself, I experienced the troubling depths that a school administration would take to downplay the controversy to protect their prestigious reputation from public scrutiny. Lisa Regina - Starring as "Ms. Vance"
Where I see this story being a benefit to society is the value in the depiction of Sharon Vance, the main character who is based on a few inspirational teachers that I had in my life. She goes above and beyond to take a stand not only to defend the bullied student but to also call out the wrongs of an administration that she serves. To play this role, I have hired veteran actress Lisa Regina who is an inspiration in her own right as she has devoted years of educating communities on sensitive subject matters, such as bullying, teaching tolerance for those who are different, and domestic violence through her non-profit, A Write to Heal.
Production will begin in October 2021 in locations around Philadelphia, PA and Camden, New Jersey. Upon the film’s completion in post-production, we plan to submit to film festivals and to arrange special screenings for high schools across the United States with the goal of sending a message of tolerance and having a positive role model for students to look up to in their own lives. The project will also serve as a proof-of-concept for a future feature film.
Funds will be needed to cover the production costs for compensating the crew, location fees, meals for the cast and crew on set, production insurance, and wardrobe which includes the school uniforms.
