earspace is a Raleigh-based contemporary ensemble dedicated to the cultivation of new interdisciplinary performances by commissioning compositions, collaborating with community artists, and partnering with local venues and spaces. Our shows strive to feature the immersive possibilities of live-projections, lighting design, diverse performance spaces, and creative approaches to music-making itself, culminating in unique alternatives to the typical concert experience.

Join earspace in December 2023 for our inaugural residency at Duke University, culminating in a performance at the historic Baldwin Auditorium. Joined by inimitable soprano Ah Young Hong, earspace will perform vocal works by Hans Abrahamsen, Michael Hersch, Duke composition professor John Supko and earspace Co-Director Richard Drehoff Jr.

In addition to these vocal works, we are thrilled to showcase the creative talents of Duke University graduate student composers Mozhgan Chahian, Ethan Foote, Brooks Frederickson, Josué Collado Fregoso, and Chris Williams.

In January 2024, earspace returns to Baltimore for a second time to present a concert of new chamber works at Le Mondo. We are very excited to collaborate with students from Peabody Conservatory for this project and to feature our performers in more soloistic capacities. 

From collaborations with local spoken-word artists and projectionists to the presentation of works and panels that shed light on human rights issues in historically excluded communities, earspace fosters an open environment which explores music’s contribution to our understandings of the world and of each other. Our audiences range from the curious community member to the avid contemporary music supporter, and our interdisciplinary approach toward programming and show design allows us to engage with that broad community.
