Happy New Year!
EdW and Dancers is kicking into 2024 strong with three upcoming showcases and rehearsals have already begun. I am fundraising $5,000 to cover artist fees for five dancers, studio space, costume fees, travel, room and board, and marketing and printing costs. Your donations not only allow my art to thrive but you will be supporting the income of five dance artists for this project-based company. Thanks to the fiscal sponsorship by Fractured Atlas, any funds donated towards my $5,000 goal is tax-deductible. I have applied for several grants and hope to share good news with you about the outcome.
Upcoming Showcases:
The Winter Follies: First up, portions of our brand new piece “Ghostbusters” will be presented at
The Winter Follies on January 27 at 7:30p. At this showcase, audience members can vote on who they want to see in a fully curated evening-length performance (a 2024 goal of mine as I have so many works to share!). So the more supporters of EdW and Dancers there, the better! Can’t make it? There will be a virtual option available the following weekend.
Versatility Dance Festival: Coming up in April, we are Chicago-bound! EdW and Dancers will be performing Carmen at the
Versatility Dance Festival on April 13 at 7p. Join us at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts for an evening of dance presented by dancers and choreographers from all over the country.
Who's dancing?
Ellie de Waal (aka ME!): I am a freelance dance artist based in New York City and Virginia. A native of Harrisonburg, VA, I am a co-founder of the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative, a 501(c)3 non-profit. I received my BFA in Modern and Contemporary Dance from Texas Christian University where I trained under the TCU faculty and other dance artists including Heidi Latsky and Robert Battle. I spent a year training in the Netherlands at Danshuis Station Zuid under the direction of Andrew Greenwood and danced works choreographed by Itamar Serussi Sahar, Rocco Vermijs, and Tomoko Stalpers-Kato. Before moving to NYC part time, I was a dancer, choreographer and teacher with concorDance Contemporary of Charlottesville, VA and the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative. Recently I was a featured dancer in
Guys and Dolls (Charlottesville Opera) and
White Christmas (La Comedia). In 2024 I'm slated to choreograph
42nd Street and
The Little Mermaid. Throughout my 15 years of professional work, I freelanced as a dancer and choreographer for off-broadway, television, universities, and festivals across the country.
