To this point, Ensemble Affect has focused mainly on the music of the Baroque and pre-Classical periods. This new project marks Ensemble Affect’s first foray into 19th century performance practice, and the birth of a new subset of the ensemble, the Affect Quartet. Our intention for this project exploring the evolution of the string quartet is to center the program on one large and pivotal work (Beethoven’s Op. 130 quartet), and draw the line backwards from there through music that influenced its composition, both directly and indirectly. As in our previous work, this program will be approached from a historically-informed perspective, on period instruments.
Money raised in this campaign will essentially fund the season’s worth of Affect Quartet concerts: creating promotional video and audio recordings, covering members’ travel costs to and from the Bay Area, renting performance venues, and allowing the group to meet for an intensive week of rehearsals and repertoire preparation prior to the inaugural season, as well as the season’s performances themselves.
We truly could not do what we do without your help - thank you !
