Founded by Tengku Irfan, Ensemble Fantasque is a group of musicians in New York committed to performing 20th and 21st century music and underperformed works of earlier centuries. We aim to demystify complex and challenging works to our audiences and make the concert experience a memorable one.

Ensemble Fantasque’s concerts are not traditional concerts where musicians just play the music in front of an audience. Irfan introduces each of the pieces, creating an interactive experience with the audience. Sometimes, performers play snippets of the music interspersed with Irfan’s commentary before playing the entire work. Through this, everyone can feel the palpable and visceral emotions that these music can convey, regardless whether they are experienced musicians or newcomers to the concert hall. This is unique and different from most concert experiences out there. We believe in the educational value and the impact of these works to audiences of all ages and experience. 

While there are music ensembles promoting older music and newer music, our group is different in that we specialize and focus on challenging music, and sharing it with the broader audience. Some of these works fall into obscurity because they may not be easily comprehensible, performed, or have had an unfortunate history of compromised premieres. With your help, we can keep presenting these hidden gems, educate their importance to the public, and share their mental and emotional impact in our lives. Also, we can continue doing exciting programs at affordable ticket prices, allowing more people to experience the thrill and excitement of challenging and complex music.

The money raised will go towards our upcoming concert on May 9 2025, which will cover:
- musicians’ fees
- venue rental for rehearsals and performance
- sheet music rental
- recording costs
- composer royalties for living composers

If we achieve our goal, this crowdfunding covers all the remaining costs for the current season. In the event we raise more than our goal, the money will be contributed to the upcoming season.
