Jamie and Emily Erekson’s work ranges from a large-scale musical deconstruction of Shakespeare’s Richard II at Carnegie Hall, to an algorithmically evolving visual and sound installation at the Church History Museum, to a 12′x12′x6′ interactive, kinetic sound sculpture at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Heralded by the The New York State Council on the Arts as “vital work,” their current projects include creating a ballet for Ballet West, an opera for the Barlow Endowment, and an interactive installation to be exhibited on the Manhattan Bridge in 2024. They have recently been awarded commissions and grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Ballet West, The Barlow Endowment for Music Composition, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, and the Center for Latter-day Saint Arts.
Erekson Studio is committed to engaging audiences in meaningful dialogue and making the arts accessible to underserved communities. Recent outreach events include presenting interactive workshops at low-income grade schools in Queens and inner city Salt Lake, as well as mid- and low-income senior centers in The Bronx and Washington Heights. In 2024, they will be partnering with two nursing and rehabilitation centers in Upper Manhattan.
