WE DID IT! And Now We're STRRRRETCHING!

UPDATE:
THANK YOU, THANK YOU ... AND WOOOOHOOOO!!
You've been so generous and so timely!  We've reached our $9,500 goal BEFORE the last day of the campaign.  We're so grateful and thrilled to be able to cover our season costs and 100% pay all our artists!  We cannot thank you enough for recognizing the importance of the arts right now and for supporting our dancers, musicians, and creatives!

We've decided to make a STRRRRRRRETCH GOAL of $11,000 as our contributions continue through our live performance before the fundraiser closes on Oct 3rd.  A stretch goal will allow the company to create a small cushion for our 2021 projects or the possibility of taking or installation 2020 performance to some other CO locations outside the Denver Metro.... finding ways to do outreach safely during this time.

If you'd like to see us in-person in Aurora, CO, Oct 1-3 (OR see us via live-stream or virtually on those dates), you can get tickets, here: https://bit.ly/2EqVWHg

Whether you've already donated or or visiting our page for the first time, consider contributing toward our STRRRRRRETCH GOAL!  (Get it? Dancers?  Strrrrrretching?  Flexible?)  This is also a really great time to share our fundraiser with friends and fellow arts lovers in your community because it is low pressure!  If extra folks donate, we just build to our stretch goal! So feel free to share the URL to our campaign.

And THANK YOU AGAIN!  Sorry... don't mean to shout.... just really excited!

Sincerely,
Angie Simmons

UPDATE:
We're thrilled and grateful to our donors to have helped us successfully reach our goal for this fundraiser!  This means we can 100% ensure payment to our artists and cover all our overhead costs.

We live in a changing world.
Day to day and moment to moment, the world around us shifts, turns, changes, breaks, reforms, and adapts.
The moving body and the arts are no different.  In fact, we are designed to flux. After all, the only constant IS change, yes?

Evolving Doors Dance faces our current state of flux head on with our 2020 season of two interconnected project works: an original dance-for-camera work and a live, walk-through, experiential performance installation.

Coil & Web is a collaboratively created dance-for camera work and is in progress from July to September, 2020. Conception, filming, and editing of the work is being done by company member and dance-for-camera artist, Gretchen LaBorwit. Gretchen is a recent MFA graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder with a focus in dance-for-camera. The sound score for this work is being composed and recorded by High Fiction, the NY/CO collaborating musical duo of Gary Grundei and Amy Shelley, who is also EDD's Sound Designer and Co-Director. The movement material created for dancers for this film work is crafted by EDD's Artistic Director and Choreographer, Angie Simmons. Finally, the dancers also lend their essence to the film footage with some captivating improvisations during the filming process.  This work is now in the editing process with a release in September.

Moving Through: Bodies, Music, Images, Experience is brave and brainy approach to live performance during the time of Covid-19. At the start of October, the company will perform live for audiences at The People's Building in Aurora, Colorado. The facility is a large and flexible space, allowing the creation of open, airy rooms full of music and movement. The space will be configured and creatively divided... turning large, open floor plans into mazes with guiding arrows that lead small groups of masked audience through a discovery of sound, dance, film, and environments. There will be no seating. Audiences will instead be encouraged to slowly move through the real-time moving-art installation. The sounds of solo musicians in the building will serve as individual instruments for solo dancers while also bleeding over into other aspects of the experience, creating an overall sound scape that evolves as the evening progresses. Dancers will be visible from various angles and levels in a way they are not in traditional performance spaces. The film created in September will be incorporated into this live experience. This live work examines connections despite barriers, distance, and divides by finding ways to integrate, express, receive, give, support, hold space for, and BE, without pretense or judgement while also touching on the sensations and experiences of our current events as a world-community. The performance will also be live-streamed for those that cannot or do not wish to attend in person. And, as with all things at this time, we remain flexible and changeable--meaning, should we be prevented from welcoming live experience-goers, we will live stream the event in real time.

EDD is very lucky to have received a small grant from the Aurora Arts Council of Aurora, Colorado to pursue completion of this work. However, this grant will not cover our full costs for the dance-for-camera and the live experience. As with many artists around the country, all our artists lost both arts work and day-time gig work due to Covid-19 and the closure of many organizations, businesses, venues, etc. We believe strongly that they should be paid for the work they are creating with EDD. Your contribution ensures that we can pay all our artists, cover our space rental for the performance, obtain installation materials, and ensure safety precautions at the venue (masks, hand sanitizer, temp checks, etc.).

This is a time, if you're able, to be generous..... but not JUST to be generous. It is a time to recognize that many arts organizations are hit doubly hard and are putting forth a great deal of commitment, creativity, community work, and courage to continue with our work and to recognize that you can do something very simple to support that and to show that you value our country's arts and culture and those that enrich it. You are our community and you are our co-creators in both the present and the future. You will help keep us alive as an organization and ensure that we can make art through and beyond all this change.

Your contribution is important to us.
We are deeply grateful.
Please check out our upcoming dance-for-camera film and join us in-person or on our live-stream for our October experience!
