Excessive Realness, a queer dance intensive created by Co-Directors Anthony Alterio and Allison Blakeney in 2018, is moving toward year three! This year will take place at DancePlace in Washington D.C. June 8th-14th, 2020. We want to thank
DancePlace upfront for initiating such a wonderful and exciting partnership!
In order to successfully carry out our third year, we are asking for your support! Each year we rely on the support of individual donors like YOU! Your support creates a connection of LGBTQIA+ people across the country who believe we deserve space to learn, share, and connect.
We need to raise $4,500 to pay 6 artists and a videographer/photographer an equitable and appropriate pay that reflects their talent and expertise. To bring 7 artists, including the videographer/photographer, in from across the United States, house and pay them costs Excessive Realness $10,500. It is ONLY because of your SUPPORT that these artists will be able to share their gifts with LGBTQIA+ people in Washington D.C., surrounding areas, and attendees from across the country!
Along with paying our artists, each year we try to offer 3-4 FULL scholarships. The cost to attend the full intensive for each participant is $257.00. We recognize that this can be a big commitment and expense for people who want to attend. By making a donation, you can help ensure that money is not a barrier to attend. Please help us make this dance intensive as affordable for LGBTQIA+ people as possible!
We have grown and expanded! This year the intensive spans over the course of seven days for 2020. There will be four classes per day over the course of 6 days, giving each teacher the opportunity to teach three days, and the final day, Sunday June 14th will be a community event at little to no cost to make sure everyone can participate.
Classes will be held from Monday June 8th to Sunday June 14th. The week will be full of classes, community engagements, a roundtable discussion, and our annual performance, The SPILL, as well as other exciting events that will be offered through DancePlace.
The SPILL, the annual performance produced by Excessive Realness, will take place on Thursday June 11th and the Edgewood Arts Center in Washington D.C. This performance will be free and open to the public.
Our fundraising goal this year is $4,500.00.
