FLAMINGO CAMP is a feature documentary about a group of queer and trans youth who build a safe haven in Slab City, a near-lawless squatter town on the edge of California’s Sonoran Desert. Under the guidance of its founder, Nova, the camp becomes a chosen family. But when Nova leaves and the brutal summer heat sets in, conflict and the stress of survival boil over, leading to a tragedy that tears the family apart.
FLAMINGO CAMP premiered at the Big Sky Documentary Festival in 2025 and went on to screen at festivals around the world, including Raindance, Inside Out Toronto, and the Galway Film Fleadh. It won the Jury Prize for Best Feature at SF DocFest. Critics have called it “a work of radical empathy.”
Now the film is set for release on January 26, 2027, on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital through Whole Grain Films. Before that can happen, two final costs have to be covered.
- Music Rights (6K): We have a small handful of music rights that need to be paid. These are all independent artists who have contributed their work to the film.
- E&O insurance (4K): Every distributor requires this insurance before a film can come out. It protects the film against legal claims, and without it, the release can’t move forward.
Together, these come to $10,000. It’s the last thing standing between FLAMINGO CAMP and its release.
The people in this film trusted us with their stories, some of the hardest moments of their lives. Getting the film out into the world is how we honor that trust. Every gift brings it closer, whether it’s $10 or $1,000.
Donations are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas.
Thank you for helping us share FLAMINGO CAMP with the world.
