Fresh Paint Performance Lab, sponsored by CityRep, presents the Oklahoma premiere of Scissortail, a play about loss, grief, and recovery based on the events of the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Scissortail centers around Gavin, a young, recently relocated Oklahoman as he grapples with the devastating effects that the attack has had on him, 20 years later. Told through present day conversations, 90's flashbacks, historical interviews with Timothy McVeigh, and the dark spaces between dream and reality, Scissortail explores both the 1995 bombing and the theme of grief in a deeply personal way.

Scissortail was first produced in Chicago in 2015 and was nominated for theJoseph Jefferson Award (Jeff Award) for Best New Work.

A statement from the playwright:
"I was inspired to write Scissortail because I felt that the story of the Oklahoma City Bombing was an important one that hadn’t been told on stage. There are several themes in this story that I think will resonate with audiences regardless of their experience of the bombing. I wanted to take an honest look at grief; how it can sneak up on you, how it lingers. I wanted to write something true about family and the importance of relationships during recovery. And I wanted to tell this story in a way that didn’t shy away from how gruesome and grotesque the attack was, while also leaning into the resilient nature of the human spirit. I wanted to write something that felt personal, relatable, honest, and uniquely Oklahoman."
