We met our goal! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! We are now working towards raising $5,000. These extra funds will go towards paying for the venue, costumes, props, and ensuring that our cast and creative team are compensated. Plus, anything leftover will help us work towards future shows!
Thank you again to everyone who has donated! We are so excited to share this show with you!
Red Leather Theatre Co. is currently working on producing their fourth show as a company and their first show of 2020: Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Jack Aldisert. This will be a site-specific production happening in Tacoma, WA in April of 2020.
Ghosts tells the story of Helen Alving, who is about to open an orphanage in her late husband's name. She reveals that her marriage was miserable because her husband was unfaithful and therefor is building the orphanage to deplete his wealth so their son, Oswald, will not inherit anything. Oswald, who suffers from syphilis, has fallen in love with their maid, Regina Engstrand, who is later revealed to be the illegitimate daughter of Captain Alving.
In this new adaptation we put the audience in the house with the Alving's and Engstrand's as they navigate their relationships to each other and to the town.
We chose to produce Ghosts as it is our first opportunity to be working with others outside of the core Red Leather team and it is giving us the opportunity to showcase a new adaptation in a site-specific way. We are excited to be involved in the Tacoma community again and to be working with local artists to create this piece.
Our goal of $3000 is set to help offset the costs of the production. The majority of our donations will go to help securing a venue for the production. while the rest will be allocated to props, costumes, set, lights, and compensating the cast and creative team. We are also looking to create a sense of community with our donors as we look towards future productions. Getting some donations now to help fund this production as well as productions later in the year will ensure that Red Leather Theatre Co. is able to keep creating accessible theatre for our community.
