Goof, Gather, and Grow is fundraising for the upcoming 2023 Comix Workshop for girls, trans, and non-binary youth aged 11-14. Led by cartoonists Ariel Schrag and Rascal Smith, the campers will learn to draw and write comics, do fun drawing exercises, and look at a wide array of graphic novels, comics, and zines by varied artists. Throughout the week there will be guest speakers, facilitated social justice conversations, and a screen-printing workshop and lots of fun! 

 

 

This year we received a grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council that covers 25% of our budget, as well as generous donations from individual donors, but we are still looking to raise more funds. 
 
Your contribution would go towards running the one week comics workshop with a gallery showcase and reading of the kids’ work, which will be held at Cottonwood in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on August 25th from 5-8pm. We offer sliding scale tuition as well as full and partial scholarships.

Goof, Gather and Grow is a week-long summer program for girls, trans and non binary youth (ages 11-14), dedicated to championing goofiness, exploring the messiness of process, and building community through comedy and art focused workshops. 

 

Goof, Gather, and Grow was founded by Camp Director Jamie Matson during the pandemic as a place to encourage lightness, laughter and coming together. The first iteration in 2021 was a Stand-Up Comedy Workshop for girls, trans and nonbinary youth aged 10-14. The stand-up workshop was co-facilitated by the amazing comics Fareeha Khan and Nadia Pinder, and the participant's comedy mentor and social justice facilitator was Nadia Pinder. Dance parties were facilitated by the hilarious and fun Cocoon Central Dance Team. The week was a great success and culminated with a variety showcase and performance put on by the campers for the community, open to the public.
