35mm: A Musical Exhibition is a bold, genre-defying musical by Ryan Scott Oliver that blends the art of photography with live musical storytelling. Inspired by the striking work of photographer Matthew Murphy, each song captures a snapshot of emotion, memory, identity, and the beautifully messy human experience.

Part concert, part theatrical journey, 35mm doesn’t follow a single plot—it’s a visceral kaleidoscope of moments that beg to be felt in real time. With a killer live band, a powerhouse cast of emerging NYC talent, and a deep belief in the emotional power of performance, we’re bringing this piece to life in a way that feels fresh, raw, and utterly unforgettable.
This production launches Half A Soul Productions: a performance and production collective built to create meaningful, impactful theater without waiting for permission.
Our Story:
It all started with an Instagram story.
- Stop Time. March 2025. -
A picture can capture, change, or create a moment all on its own. On Friday, Claire scrolled through an Instagram story by her old college classmate, Jimmy, saying: “I have a sudden urge to do a concert of 35mm…”

We care a lot… and hope you will, too.

Having been mindlessly scrolling on her phone up until this moment, Claire quickly swiped up to reply to Jimmy who she had only briefly crossed paths with again since college, and said:
“Let’s do this.”
On Monday...
...we were in a studio. We hadn’t worked together since school, but the creative spark was undeniable. Even with no prior producing experience, we knew this was something we were meant to make happen. What started as a spontaneous moment quickly became a shared mission: to build something we believed in. Something real.
We’ve been dreaming up every detail since that Monday. This isn’t just a performance—it’s a passion project, a leap of faith, and the foundation of an artistic home. Our goals and purpose for this project were already perfectly aligned. To reconnect as collaborators and plan to take the stage together again, felt almost too good.
There were still a few question marks — How do we produce a show, exactly? What will this really take?
Now, we know and love Caralee, of course. But unlike the lyrics from the show say, she does not pay the bills… not yet for us anyway.
So here’s where you come in.
To bring this show to life, we’re raising funds to cover:
- Licensing and rights fees
- Fair wages for our performers and musicians
- Our venue and rehearsal space rentals
- Technical and creative production needs
This is a labor of love. A project driven by artists who believe that meaningful, heart-fueled theater should be accessible, supported, and shared.
