For the past year, we've been focusing mind, body, and soul into my new play "I Am." It is based on the idea that our greatest obstacles are the voices in our heads that are telling us "No." What if these voices were actual characters? What would they look like? What would they say? How have they transformed us into who we are?
Simple in design, "I Am" focuses on its unique language and the connection between characters. The aesthetic has been compared to Alice in Wonderland and an adult "Inside Out." This is a dark fairy-tale, partially devised, including original music and lyrics by Lauren Hendon who recently won Best Singer for "I Am" at the New York Theater Festival. "I Am" acknowledges the darkness in us all but more importantly, the necessity of hope and strength of will that helps us to persevere.
The show, in its entirety, will cost approximately $28000 USD and we are about halfway there. We have just launched our 2019 crowdsourcing campaign in which we hope to raise $6000 to send our American/international cast and crew to the Edinburgh Fringe this August; the largest theatrical Fringe festival in the world. The funds will be allocated to flights, housing, and per diem for 5 actors and 1 director/technician (me). Festival non-profit theater is always a challenge to produce but it can be the most rewarding and explosive platform for new work. That’s why we need your help.
If you donated to our last campaign, THANK YOU! And here's some excellent news: now that we are in the 2019 tax season, if you give to our new crowdsource campaign your donation will once again be tax deductible as we are still fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.
And just like last time, we have gathered a great list of perks to give you as a thank you for your support.
