The Iconoclast Theatre Collective is raising funds for its 2023/2024 Season, creating new works of musical theatre that are accessible to everyone from everywhere. #ArtUnbound #ITCUprising
The Iconoclast Theatre Collective is raising money for its 2023/2024 Season, which includes the following projects:
A Staged Reading of our newest piece in development: The13th Child is set along the Jersey Shore in 1989 and expounds upon the tale of the Garden State’s most infamous cryptid. This original musical marries the genres of horror and musical theatre in a bold new way.
A New Works concert featuring songs from upcoming musical theatre voices, uplifting and promoting the work of up-and-comers from eclectic backgrounds and helping our peers make a splash in the theatre community.
An EP of songs from our legacy project, GRINDR The Opera, an award-winning, internationally-produced queer opus for the modern age.
And to create a series of animated music videos from our hit audio series, The World to Come, illustrated by artist Scott Lilly. An example can be seen here, in our video trailer for the series:
The Iconoclast Theatre Collective was founded during the pandemic, when the theatre industry was put on an indefinite standstill and it became important for theatre artists to find new creative outlets. The goal of the company was to expand the borders of what theatre (and particularly musical theatre) could be. The inaugural project was a 12-episode musical audio series that plays like an animated series without animation, and contains over 50 original songs by emerging artists and a cast of over twenty performers all of whom were given a stake in the project. As we explore new avenues and outlets for our art, we are interested in the evolution of entirely new media for artistic expression. Our collaborators continue to push the envelope with original projects that will need funding to develop, as we are committed to seeing our diverse array of talented artists duly compensated for their work.
In an industry where commerciality often translates to reiterations of old stories or the highlighting of the mega-successful to the detriment of the emerging artist, Iconoclast Theatre Collective is committed to the creation of original work. Moreover, our goal is to keep the artform of theatre, which can oftentimes be a luxury reserved for the wealthier classes, accessible to audiences regardless of class or income. We regularly employ a diverse body of artists: Actors, musicians, directors and designers, who represent all walks of life in a company that often feels more like a family. We believe the public deserves access to original content at affordable prices.
