Please support Indexical in another year of presenting music, facilitating workshops and discussions, and releasing recordings of experimental music. More than just an isolated concert presenter or a record label, Indexical is a platform for artists to develop new ideas over the course of many performances, and to see these ideas through to publication and release. We need your help to keep it up!

This past year was about building relationships. We worked with a number of venues for the first time: Wind River, a small studio in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Idea Fab Labs, a maker space and workshop, and the Museum of Art and History in Downtown Santa Cruz -- and, as always, our first home base Radius Gallery at the Tannery Arts Center. This itinerant programming lets us bring audiences to new places in the city, and reaches new people who might not otherwise encounter the music we present.

In the coming year, we want to deepen these relationships. We want to work with artists we’ve presented once or twice toward developing new pieces, commissioning new work, and releasing that work for the wider public. We’ve already started – our long relationship with Ghost Ensemble threaded through a series of commissions in 2016, the release of their debut LP We Who Walk Again, and an afternoon recording session of work by Liisa Hirsch and Teodora Stepancic at Wind River this Spring.

This Summer, we’re presenting a site-specific piece in Santa Cruz called Melt Me Into The Ocean, curated by Yolande Harris and Madison Heying. We’ll also present baroque violinist Andrew Nathaniel McIntosh in a program of Wolfgang Von Schweinitz, Catherine Lamb, Anahita Abbasi, and the idiosyncratic baroque composer Heinrich Biber’s scordatura “Rosary Sonatas.”

In the Fall, we’re thrilled to present the Bali-based record label Insitu Recordings, whose work straddles experimental noise music and gamelan. This will be their first showcase performance in the United States, with a concert and marathon recording session of new compositions by local and Balinese composers.

There’s much more in the works, but we need your help to make it all happen. Please donate today. The sooner we meet our goal, the sooner we can get to work, and the more successful these projects will be.

We have a number of perks for your donation. Larry Polansky’s “Piano Study No. 5” for just intonation Fender Rhodes is available on 10-inch transparent lathe cut, we’ve got the “Indexical Wizard” by Mustafa Walker on a tote bag, and a selection of limited digital downloads from our live concert series. We’d also love to invite you and a friend to a pre-concert reception with Andrew Nathaniel McIntosh, or to sponsor a talk, workshop, artist, or even a whole ensemble. Please get in touch for details about sponsorships.

Your support is what makes this series happen. We couldn’t do it without you. Please join us in our commitment to presenting new performances, works-in-progress, local and visiting ensembles, and supporting the artistic community throughout the West Coast and beyond. Donate today, and help make this vision a reality. Thank you for your support.
