Kalesma has officially begun!
We are thrilled to announce that our project has officially started! On Wednesday, our founder Vasilis Kostas was in Athens to meet with Father Antonios (founder of Kivotos tou Kosmou), his council and our local affiliate music educator Aggeliki Toubanaki.
Aggeliki will start training with the children on September 1st and will continue working with them once a week until the international artists arrive in July 2018!
We are so excited and so grateful to all of our donors, because this couldn't have initiated without your help so far!
Please continue supporting our project and spreading the word.
Thank you.
Always grateful, The Kalesma Team
KALESMA
A humanitarian project that transforms children's lives through music.
KALESMA's mission is the creation of a long - term music education program for the children of 'Kivotos'.
'Kivotos tou Kosmou' is a Non-Profit Organization for the caring mostly for homeless mothers and children, living in conditions of neglect and abandonment, without medical care, mostly coming from single parent families, and some children even without parents. They provide care to over 500 children on a daily basis.
The first step of this project is to bring six international musicians from Berklee College of Music in the United States who will travel to Greece for the sole purpose of working and performing together on stage with a choir of 40 children of 'Kivotos'.
The children will be trained for a year prior to the concert by Aggeliki Toubanaki, professional educator/musician. The artists will work with the children for one week in July 2018.
The final performance is not the only goal of this project but the beginning of a permanent music education program which will start in September of 2018.

"This idea came to life when I visited Kivotos last Christmas with the intention of finding the musical talent that exists there. I witnessed how music cultivates kindness, respect and teamwork, and builds self esteem. I decided that I will do everything within my power to fulfill this need for music education." Vasilis Kostas
All six artists who will work with the children, are graduates from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which trains its students to create humanitarian projects and to bring social change through music.
Please help us bring KALESMA to life. The project has expenses such as transportation, accommodation, the children's training, equipment and supplies, advertising, venue rental, and more.
This initiative can only gain traction and succeed with your financial support. By donating for KALESMA, hundreds of children’s lives can be positively impacted and the long-term goals of implementing a musical program can be realized, for the Kivotos children to find their calling.
Thank you for your consideration to support our mission.
Every donation counts.
