By providing quality theatre productions free of charge to the public, Kansas City Public Theatre envisions theatre as an essential cultural good which should be fully accessible to all members of the community. KCPublic serves the community in two ways: by producing aesthetically and ideologically diverse new works and reimagined classics which reflect the unique history and concerns of the Kansas City community; and second, by cultivating civic-minded artists, audiences, and citizens through community-based devised theatre workshops.
In our first full season Kansas City Public Theatre will:
-Continue the First Mondays Theatre Lab program. Every first Monday of the month, Kansas City Public Theatre presents staged readings of local playwrights and small-scale performance art which reflects the unique history and concerns of the Kansas City community.
-Work with the Kansas City Museum to produce KCVoices. KCVoices is a program which allows members of the Kansas City community to give voice to their experiences, highlighting the diverse backgrounds and aspirations of people in the Kansas City area through the medium of public performance. The program is an outlet for anyone who wants to share their stories to help shape the future of their community.
-Produce 2 full productions featuring all local artists.
-Complete a residency with the Charlotte Street Foundation.
