Thank You and Stretch Goal Announcement

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to our incredible community we were able to reach our fundraising goal of $4,000 for Lost Grrrl Found in only two weeks! WOW! Your support and belief in the project means the world to us and is absolutely instrumental in allowing us to put on this show that we are all so proud of.

In light of this, we have created a stretch goal of $6,000 to reach within the final two weeks of our campaign. This additional $2,000 will help us fund the show through the new year, beyond our November 17th performance, creating a safety net that will allow us to continue to pay for rehearsal space, venue fees, cast honorariums, and upgraded sound equipment for future runs.

We are blown away by the response our campaign has received, and would love to be able to propel this show even further into the future. We cannot thank you enough for donating and sharing our campaign.

All the best,

Lost Grrrl Found is a feminist coming of age story with original songs that takes place during the riot grrrl political and musical movement of the 1990s. It combines the elements of a musical with a DIY punk show and juggles ideas of finding your queerness, art as activism, and the generative power of crushes.

In June of this year, we had a sold out workshop performance with an audience of over 100 people. They gave us great feedback and we spent the last three months using what we learned to re-write and develop the show even further.

We are thrilled to announce that Lost Grrrl Found in its new form will be premiering at Stone Circle Theatre in Ridgewood on November 17th, 2024! There are new scenes, new songs, and the same wildly talented cast of musicians and actors.

As a team of emerging artists, we are empowered by the riot grrrl movement, which was spearheaded by women in their teens and early twenties. They did not wait for permission or for someone older to tell them how to do the things they wanted to do. With determination and passion, they took action to achieve their goals. In putting on this musical with a woman-led team of 15 artists, all under the age of 30, we are trying to do the same.

DIY performance spaces often act as a place for marginalized folks to find community on the stage and in the crowd in raucous, playful, and political ways. We are excited to see what it would look like to build a similar space with this play. Our plan is for the musical to be performed at different music venues across New York City, mimicking the way bands operate.

Our ticket price is purposefully low so that the show remains accessible for all who want to attend. However, this means there are some additional funds needed to cover production costs and pay our team. Emerging artists are so often asked to donate their time to explore their art, and we want to challenge this industry-wide inequity by compensating people for the time they’re devoting to this project. We can only do so with your assistance.

Below is a breakdown of where your donations will go:

  • 58%: Stipends for cast and crew
  • 12%: Practice space rental and venue fees
  • 11%: Marketing, graphic design, and other promotional materials
  • 4%: Transportation
  • 3%: Set dressing, props, and costumes
  • 2%: Sound equipment
  • 10%: Contingency

Thank you for reading about our project! If you are able to and would like to share our campaign, please do. All of your support is deeply appreciated.

If you are in New York on November 17th, we hope to see you at the show! Tickets are available for purchase here.
