We are full of anticipation and excitement as we approach our inaugural
LunART Festival 2018 in Madison, Wisconsin! Our vision is to empower women in the arts by fostering originality, honoring diversity, and strengthening equality.
LunART Festival strives to cultivate a vibrant, safe space for women, unveiling our artistic leadership and creating the opportunity to put our hearts and souls into what we believe in.
2018 Season
The 2018 season features a remarkable range of women, diverse and varied in their artistic vision, but with the shared passion and desire to make their voices heard!
LunART’s innovative programming combines and interweaves musical performances, theater pieces, multimedia presentations, visual art, dance, and spoken word. We showcase multiple genres of music, including contemporary classical, hip hop, folk, and pop, combining everything under one umbrella of celebrating women in the arts.
The
2018 season includes three Gala concerts of contemporary classical music, highlighting works and a world premiere of our Artist in Residence, award-winning composer
Jenni Brandon, as well as our
2018 Call for Scores winners. Our educational program “
From Page to Stage: Emerging Composers Workshop,” led by Ms. Brandon, offers a dynamic learning environment for women composers at the early stages of their careers. Audiences will be able to observe a free master class, attend open rehearsals, and enjoy the concluding outreach concert.
LunART’s Friday “Starry Night” performance at the
Bos Meadery features Zhalarina H. Sanders, Executive Director of The JVN Project. She will present her one-person Hip-Hop theater show
Rose Gold, that recounts “the tragedy of black motherhood and the glory of its daughters.” The festival closes with Saturday’s “Starry Night” at
Robinia Courtyard, with performances by 2014 International Fingerstyle Guitar Champion and folk singer-songwriter
Helen Avakian, and local rock band
Tiny Dinosaur.
Community Ties
Through collaborations and partnerships with Madison-area arts organizations and businesses, we are celebrating women's originality, individuality, imagination, and strengthening community ties. We are proud to be partnering with:
Individual Involvement
We are thrilled to announce that LunART is now supported by Dane Arts and the Madison Arts Commission. Additionally, we placed second at the 2018 UW Arts Business Competition, and we are a finalist for the 2018 National Flute Association’s C.R.E.A.T.E. Project Competition.
