Since our inception in 2019, Maroon Arts and Culture has engaged the community through youth programming, cultural events, and artist development. As we celebrate our 5th anniversary, we are focusing our passion and expertise on a two-fold mission: to support the development of new Black theatre and to connect Black artists with audiences who will champion their work.
Our Legacy Project: 'Sandbranch'
The centerpiece of our new initiative is Sandbranch, a musical that embodies our commitment to innovative storytelling and profound cultural expression. Sandbranch is more than a play; it's a cultural intervention designed to innovate in the area of creative development as well as create a sustainable model for the production of Black theatre.
Our Goals
Crafting a musical deeply rooted in Black culture, celebrating ritual, tradition, and history.
Developing a forward-looking strategy that serves as a sustainable model for Black theatre production.
Fostering collaboration among a diverse group of Black artists to enrich the project with a variety of perspectives.
Capturing the interest of younger audiences, particularly Millennials and Generation X, who are enthusiastic about live performances but less frequent theatre-goers.
Actively engaging our audience throughout the creative process, ensuring their deep connection and long-term support for the project.
We are seeking $5,000 to fund the a development workshop for Sandbranch in Los Angeles this fall. This crucial seed funding will enable us to take significant steps in the musical’s creation.
